Adventures in the Lord

The last few weeks have gone by really quickly. My job and the workload has really increased and Nick has been at work late this past week finishing up some law enforcement training. I have so much I want to tell you all! It's funny...I have 2 or 3 drafts of posts that I have typed, but since I cannot find my camera at the moment, I do not have pictures to show you. I am saving those posts until I can get some pictures! In the mean-time here is a brief update: Nick and I have continued to do stuff to our house. Little by little, week by week, we hope to add to and make it feel more like what we want "home" to be. We went to the garden store and we got some greens! I love when Nick takes me there - I feel like such a queen, getting to pick out whatever I want :D I fell in love with this little 79 cent succulent . I put it on my desk where I work :) We placed the plants all around the house and then sat down on the couch. It is incredible how "at home" you feel ...

We have hung up some pictures around the house - so I took pictures of the pictures :) The pictures in these frames are from a map that Nick got off the Jarvis. Thank you Aubrie for our hanging baskets ( I love putting all colored fruits in there). Mmmm...I am addicted to Nick's smoothies! Our blender is awesome. The smoothies above are a grandma Hargrove creation - Pineapple, mint, a little buttermilk...oh man I would have them every afternoon if I could!  Thank you aunt Cristine for our awesome anchor placeholders! They welcomed Nick home. Thank you Julia for sending the "I Do" letters (she used these to decorate at our rehersal dinner). I had them set up as "I Do" on the table and within the first 2 days being home, Nick had moved them around, as you can see. It either needs a question mark at the end, or an exclamation mark with valley girl attitude ;) Apoligies for not posting more often. I'm back!!!..... Well , I've been back for almost two weeks now. It is so good to be back home with my beautiful wife, and now furnished house. Life underway was hard, but full of adventures that I wouldn't trade for anything. The Lord has blessed me so much, he has taken me around the world to some pretty amazing places that not too many people get to see. Thank you everyone so much for all your prayers, there were days that I just knew that you were praying for me. It was a difficult three months, really only because I was away from Becky yet again. I can hang with a bunch of Sailors, thats the easy part, its the separation from my wife that gets me. In reality we have it easy. I could be deployed over in Iraq for more than a year, while getting shot at. my Cousin Daniel is deployed and his wife just had their little girl, he only gets to come back for one week. Nick is back!   This was his reaction as he walked in the front door for the first time! And he loves our house!! He hit the ground running and was ready to add some of his ideas. We have already hung 7 pictures or so :) it is the most amazing thing having him back. I am running to the grocery store now (Nick has duty tonight and will be back in the morning), but wanted to post one quick picture! This week we will sit down and put up pictures of the house so you can see his creative touches.  I was really encouraged by a friend, Sandy , who blogged about what a blessing it is to your family when you cook and provide a warm meal for dinner. No matter what happened during the day, they can always count on having a warm, yummy meal at home. I want to provide that! So I pray the Lord shows me how to cook more things, more things well. Nick is coming home.  I get to pick him up at the airport Friday afternoon. Tonight while in the grocery store I realized how close it was and got super giddy. Still am. My cheeks already hurt from smiling and I am having a hard time sitting still! just had to post that. :D :-O

First - Nick survived the Mace! I got to talk with him that afternoon and his visual explanation helped me to better sympathize: "It was like bobbing for french fries in a McDonalds fryer". That seems to sum up that lovely experience quite well. He had the weekend off and will go back this week for 4 more days of training. He said this week they will do a mock-boarding where they board a boat with officers hidden like criminals throughout and they have to react to the situation....an onsite Paintball game if you will :) So I would imagine that being the highlight of his two weeks in South Carolina! This past weekend the Lord took me on a little trip, just me and Him. The woman's ministry at our church One Love had a woman's retreat on the little island of Molokai. The island is a half hour ride in a prop-plane away from Oahu and a rock's throw from Lanai. I waited in the small Commuter terminal of the airport Friday morning, making some friends along the way. Hi All, I write this post with a laugh and a little uneasiness!  While Nick is training in SC, we are able to talk on the phone. He has successfully survived 3 days of training and it is intense! Tomorrow marks a "memorable" day. Tomorrow Nick will be sprayed in the face with mace. Yup.  They come up to you, make you keep your eyes open, spray it in your eyes a few times (let it really set it) then he is expected to protect his gun from an guy who comes and attacks him, trying to take his gun from him. Sounds fun huh? Here are a few other stories I have heard about training thus far...
