Christmas Blessings

We had such a beautiful Christmas today. It has been such a blessing to have my sister here, it made this day so special, I only wish more of you (Family and friends alike) could have been here. This is a quick slide show I put together of our afternoon hike on the North Shore. The day was so beautiful and we were able to get some amazing shots with my new digital SLR my wife gave me. I hope you enjoy!

The beginnings of our first Christmas

Venture back with me, if you will, to the weekend after Thanksgiving.... Saturday morning Nick and I  had waffles for breakfast with cranberry sauce on top, then started out to run some errands. As the day unfolds, it becomes rainy and a little cooler temperature-wise - colder than usual. It actually felt a little more like Christmas time!! So we got very excited and decided to go get our first real Christmas Tree!  The pine trees get shipped over here from the mainland and we heard that they sell very quickly. A friend of mine sent me a message saying that she heard there was a farm here on the island that sells real trees. So we went there to check it out. We were a bit dissapointed to find out that these are not like "mainland" pine trees, they are more the Charlie Brown kind :) But we had fun walking around and taking pictures. This is our favorite tree: Nope, it did not smell pine-like.  I had to wear my beanie and scarf just to say I wore them while at a tree farm. Afte...

Rain Storm: Part 2

Image
About 15 minutes ago the rain finally stopped - So I  took a quick break from work, grabbed camera and rain boots, and headed outside to walk to the beach and see if there was still flooding. Well, to my surprise and a bit shocked, I found more than just flooding. I walked down our street to see one house with all their plants knocked over as I continued to pass the house I looked and saw this tree!! The little boy there standing in front of the tree with two others said it was his house and his trampoline that was being crushed :( It was a good thing he and his family were okay.  It is really hard to put together the fact that some wind uprooted this huge tree.  Here is a little boy playing in the flood water. Pretty crazy! I feel like a small town reporter! Thank you Lord that we are safe and those little kids are too!

Rain Storm

Hi everyone! We are having a big rain storm here on Oahu today. The severity of it should pass before noon today, but it is incredible home much damage rain and wind can make. Nick has been out on the boat for the last few days - they go out into the open water to make sure everything is working properly before they leave for their next patrol on January 3rd. He will come home tonight :) Since our husbands' were gone last night, I went to my friend's house for dinner (whose husband is also on the Jarvis). We knew we were going to get some bad weather, so I planned to stay the night. This morning I left to head home and realized it was going to take me a lot longer than expected! There are all kinds of road closures all over the island because of flooding. The rain pours really hard here, and since it had been pouring since the night before many regular streets and bridges are flooding! I saw at least 7-10 tow trucks helping cars that had gotten stuck in the water or had spun o...
