home - really sweet - home

Image
Nick is back!   This was his reaction as he walked in the front door for the first time! And he loves our house!! He hit the ground running and was ready to add some of his ideas. We have already hung 7 pictures or so :) it is the most amazing thing having him back. I am running to the grocery store now (Nick has duty tonight and will be back in the morning), but wanted to post one quick picture! This week we will sit down and put up pictures of the house so you can see his creative touches.  I was really encouraged by a friend, Sandy , who blogged about what a blessing it is to your family when you cook and provide a warm meal for dinner. No matter what happened during the day, they can always count on having a warm, yummy meal at home. I want to provide that! So I pray the Lord shows me how to cook more things, more things well. With the help of some wonderful recipes and tips which have been given to me, I am doing okay so far :). And that is why I am running to the store!   Chat wi...

Nick is coming Home in LESS than 48 HOURS!

Nick is coming home.  I get to pick him up at the airport Friday afternoon. Tonight while in the grocery store I realized how close it was and got super giddy. Still am. My cheeks already hurt from smiling and I am having a hard time sitting still! just had to post that. :D :-O

a little trip to Molokai

First - Nick survived the Mace! I got to talk with him that afternoon and his visual explanation helped me to better sympathize: "It was like bobbing for french fries in a McDonalds fryer". That seems to sum up that lovely experience quite well. He had the weekend off and will go back this week for 4 more days of training. He said this week they will do a mock-boarding where they board a boat with officers hidden like criminals throughout and they have to react to the situation....an onsite Paintball game if you will :) So I would imagine that being the highlight of his two weeks in South Carolina! This past weekend the Lord took me on a little trip, just me and Him. The woman's ministry at our church One Love had a woman's retreat on the little island of Molokai. The island is a half hour ride in a prop-plane away from Oahu and a rock's throw from Lanai. I waited in the small Commuter terminal of the airport Friday morning, making some friends along the way. A ...

Mace-in-the-Face

Hi All, I write this post with a laugh and a little uneasiness!  While Nick is training in SC, we are able to talk on the phone. He has successfully survived 3 days of training and it is intense! Tomorrow marks a "memorable" day. Tomorrow Nick will be sprayed in the face with mace. Yup.  They come up to you, make you keep your eyes open, spray it in your eyes a few times (let it really set it) then he is expected to protect his gun from an guy who comes and attacks him, trying to take his gun from him. Sounds fun huh? Here are a few other stories I have heard about training thus far... While studying for tests, here are a couple definitions he sent to me: Use of Force Continuum Officer Presence : Appearance, demeanor and verbal/non-verbal communication that create an atmosphere of compliance. Verbal Commands : Verbal commands are in the form of task directions with consequences aimed at the subject. Control Techniques : Control techniques are techniques or actions with a low ...

Status Update

I wanted to send out a quick timeline of the next few weeks.  First - I really want to finish well . Can you believe that it has been almost 3 months since Nick headed into the open ocean on that boat! I cannot tell you all how thankful I am for the notes, comments, and emails that have encouraged me along the way. But I want to finish well! I do not want to miss any lesson or thing that I am to learn even in these last two weeks before Nick is home for a while! Nick is in South Carolina right now in Law Enforcement school. There he is getting police-like training; guns, physical pressure points and enforcement moves, all the stuff guys want to be able to do. He will be in intensive training for the next 7 days or so.  I am now in Honolulu safe and sound (ah and how wonderful it was to walk into my home after being away for over a month!).  This weekend I am priveledged to be able to go on a Woman's retreat with my church One Love .  I get to go to the island of Molokai! I am incre...

just bliss

Hi Everyone. So much has happened in the last week, it feels like I have not blogged in very long time. First - Praise the Lord. He is Real and in charge, Trustworthy and Good!  Only about 2 and a half weeks ago I found out that Nick was being sent to South Carolina for 2 weeks of training and that he would be able to stop and see me in Missouri!! This is an unbelievable occurance and an incredible blessing to his new wifey! Nick came in on Saturday evening and just left yesterday - we had such a wonderful time together! oh man, it is hard to explain my feelings - it was so amazing being reunited with my husband. There is no other feeling to relate it to really - Bliss... I felt like a Princess and then like a little girl in a cute dress running through a field of yellow flowers hand in hand with the love of my life, laughing, cheeks hurting from smiles :D with "Strawberry Swing" playing in the background. ;) anyway... In order to share all that has happened in the last we...

fun in Missouri

Image
I am now in Missouri visiting my mom, sister and family. I wanted to introduce you to some of our family... This is Sunny. He is a beautiful palomino , a swell friend on the trial, but always the first one to turn back toward home for dinner :) Here are the puppies: This is Sanchez: He was the neighbors dog, but kept coming over to my mom's house to visit. We came to find out that the neighbors were neglecting him :( They decided one day to give him to my sister Laura because they didn't want him anymore. Sad beginning, but he is now a happy rescued puppy who burrows under the covers in bed with you :) Shelby - named after "Shelbyville" Tennessee, where we got her at least 8 years ago. Shelbyville is where the Tennessee Walking Horse national show is, where we went for 2 months every summer for 8 years riding and showing horses :)  Jake - I wish this picture was actual size because he is Huge! Instead of a lab, I think he is part Bull. If he comes running at you too f...
