Always be Ready

So, this weekend was quite eventful here on the islands. Praise the God of the Heavens and Earth for sparing us a true disaster. 
I was warned by multiple friends of the coming tsunami warnings, was called multiple times the morning of and had a neighbor knock to make sure I knew what was happening :). Up at 4, packed and left the house by 5, heading to higher ground. 
All in all, I did learn a few things... to remember tooth paste next time :)


At church this morning, our pastor reminded me that the Bible tells us that earthquakes will happen as we near the end. It is interesting that the Coast Guard's latin moto is "Sempar Paratus", Always Ready. 
The Lord has reminded me that we are to always be ready. 

"For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will."  - Matthew 24:44
"Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season" - 2Timothy 4:2
"but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you" - 1 Peter 3:15

Reflecting on this weekends events, I want to purposefully prepare a kit, get a box together with canned food and items in case of an emergency. I want to do this with the purpose of being ready to help others who is in need! I want to be a person that others can go to for help or aid. Not storing up goods so that we can be taken care of and comfortable, but so we are ready and able to reach out to others in a time of crisis.  I am pretty sure that earthquakes are not going to start decreasing in number... this is not out of fear, just a desire to be ready for anything and able to help.

All of our belongings arrived this morning! We have it all! Big truck, three huge crates and a team of 5 showed up on the doorstep at 8:45 AM this morning. They must have thought I was weird - as each item came through the door I got the hugest smile! The Best Things In Life Are For Free

Well not completely free, actually this chair was $2.00 at a garage sale down the street, and the paint was $10.00 at the Home Depot. the cool life ring we found in the dumpster, and its from a Panamanian Ship, so really it is the only thing that was for free. so all together I guess $12.00 is not so bad for a little beach flare around the house. The drift wood and coral were free! Here you go Mom just like I promised, my newly reorganized closet.
